FACULTY POSITION IN SOCIOLOGY

Department of Anthropology and Sociology

SUMMARY:

The Department of Anthropology and Sociology at Vanguard University of Southern California invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in sociology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to begin the fall semester of 2012.  Areas of specialization are open but candidates should be strong in sociological theory, qualitative/quantitative research methods and data analysis.  Candidates with topical interests that will enhance current course offerings and departmental research agenda are preferred (i.e., applied social science; Women’s Studies minor).  The mission of the department is to equip the next generation of scholar-practitioners to be professionally competent social scientists who are devoted to the public good. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Candidates should be comfortable teaching both introductory and upper-division courses.
  • Engages students in the integration of faith and learning.
  • Teaches four courses per semester (eight per year).
  • Advises sociology majors.
  • After the first year of employment, have committee responsibilities. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidates must have completed (or be in the final stages of completing) a Ph.D. in Sociology.
  • Candidates must have evidence of a strong commitment to undergraduate education. This includes mentoring and collaborating with students with applied research projects that benefit local, regional and international community organizations and churches.
  • Possess a vibrant Christian faith, and is committed to an academically rigorous integration of faith and learning.  

COMPENSATION:

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Compensation includes a generous benefits plan.
