Request for Student Employment

Prior to the student employee’s first day of work, the supervisor will need to complete all requested information on the Request for Student Employment form and submit it to the Human Resources Office for approval.

New Student Training Checklist

On the first day of work the supervisor should review the New Student Employee Training Checklist with the new student worker. This is a tool that is helpful when training on phones, etiquette, computers, job expectations, and safety procedures. Please return the completed form to the Human Resources Office.

Confidentiality Agreement

Due to the sensitive material that some departments require students to process, it is very important that they understand and honor the confidentiality required of their position. All student workers must sign the Confidentiality Agreement form after the supervisor has reviewed it with the employee. Signed agreements should be sent to the Human Resources Office in Smith Hall. **Violation of the agreement may be grounds for termination**

Student Pay Scale

Student employees are paid according to the Student Pay Scale. If you are not sure which grade your position falls under, please contact the Employment Services Coordinator in the Human Resources Office for the most current information regarding the grade and classification. All students, including Federal Work Study students, must be paid by this scale.

Notice of Needed Improvement

In the event of a performance problem or a violation of any University policy or rule, a Notice of Needed Improvement form will be issued to the student. This notice must be signed and dated by the student employee and the supervisor. If the student employee refuses to sign the warning, another supervisor should be asked to come in and sign as a witness of the student’s refusal to sign. Send the original form to Human Resources for the student’s personnel file.

Student Performance Evaluation

Student employees should recieve a performance evaluation by their supervisor at the end of every semester. The evaluation tends to be a valuable tool in helping student employees find out how they are doing on their jobs and acts as a means of communication between the student and the supervisor. This Evaluation must be signed and dated by the student employee and the supervisor. Send the original form to Human Resources for the student’s personnel file.

Student Payroll Change Notice

Student raises are based on merit. To give a student worker a raise, the supervisor must fill out a “Student Payroll Change Notice” for the student. The completed form needs to be turned in to Human Resources for approval brfore the raise wil take effect.

Note:
Raises may not exceed $1.00 per hour within a twelve month period.
Pay raises will not be retroactive.
Temporary raises for the summer employment period will not be permitted.

Student Employee Notice of Termination

Supervisors are required to fill out a Student Employee Notice of Termination form for every student at the end of their employment period (Spring and Summer) or when a student employee ends their employment during the semester. At the end of the spring semester, the supervisor must fill out a termination form for all student workers, even if they are planning on rehiring them for the summer or fall.
